Net-Worth increase from last month: 5K SGD, +0.17KG Gold

My stock portfolio dropped yet again, eating up all our salary income.

Gold price decreased a bit and we had some increase in terms of Gold as well.

This is another new low, both in terms of absolute value and annualized return rate.

Why are some games so good?

GTA V again got my attention. Just watching some videos made me want to play it again, not to mention all the mods readily available now.

GTA V was released more than 9 years ago!

With so many new games, I cannot help but wondering why some games are so good that people would just keep playing and keep coming back.

My conclusion is that the games offer something people want beautifully.

Everyone wants something from games and the game developer understands it and delivers it in such a beautiful way, from content to mechanism, from gameplay to progression, from weapons to cars, to even computer requirements.

In my opinion, when it comes to product management, it does not get better than this.

You got to have a group of people who invested their heart and mind into it.

With GTA VI on the way, maybe it is a great time to pick up this masterpiece again while looking forward to the exciting sequel.

Narcos - All three seasons

I finalized watched the Narcos — All three seasons. I had it before Covid and never started watching it somehow till now.

Three quick things I extracted from the show:

• Corruption has no limit. The whole town, city and even country can be bought.
• Commitment against all odds can bring victory sometimes, but things typically do not work out for the hero(s) themselves. 
• When one side ups their game, the other side has to do the same, which usually means crossing bottom-lines over and over again until no line exists any more.

My Market Transactions — Wk40 2022 - Yes, Got!

After so long acting Ostrich, I finally had some transactions, but probably not what you think.

I bought SSB. Thanks to one of my readers (Apologies I could not find the comments somehow and could not find your name/ID...)

I never considered SSB as an investment option since the return was so low, 1-2%. Of course, I did not know better. 1-2% is so much better than -60%, haha.

Now that the return is very close to 3%, I think it can be a good instrument for long-term holding.

So here is my first purchase of SSB.

My portfolio continues the drop with the market, many of which have less than 10% of value left.

At this point, selling or not becomes a casual decision. And I am lazy. So no sale.

Life advice — for consideration only

My cousin is in University Year 3 and doing her internship. She asked me for some life advice.

I gave her some pointers and would like to share them here for my younger audience (I hope there are some :))

1. Your immediate focus is only Career and Marriage. The rest (bags, clothes etc etc) is a waste of time, time that you will never get back. And do not forget about the compounding impact.
2. Between Career and Marriage, you should prioritize Career over Marriage at least until 30. In modern cities, your career determines your circle, which determines the kind of man you can meet. Being successful in Career would enable you to find better partners, and thus increase your chance of living a happy and successful life.
3. You should never be a housewife in your whole life. If possible, you should maintain your independent Career and income. If not, you need to be helping your husband’s career with very clear value addition. Otherwise, the more successful your husband is, the more likely you will lose his respect and then him completely.
4. To do well in Career, the secret lies in every decision of yours, big or small. When you see an opportunity, do you actively pursue it or wait for it to come to you? When presented with a good relocation opportunity, do you take the challenge or shrink back into your comfort zone? After work, do you read or spend all your time on Tiktok? 
5. Base your expectations and decisions on statistics and rules. You need to realize you are just as common as the majority of the population. That means what happens to the majority will happen to you. That means rules will not bend for you. That means you will neither be very lucky nor very unlucky. For example, your plane won't crash and you won't strike the lottery.

What about for man of a similar age?

Well, if you are one of them, you are in luck. It is much more straightforward for men.

Just focus even more on Career. A successful Career and money will get you most of the things you want in life.

VR Gaming — A Stop for Now

I have had my Oculus Quest 2 for about a year now. It has given me countless joy and taken up much of my time.

I bought the headset for gaming, which was my primary use in the beginning. And I enjoyed it for the most part.

It was a brand new gaming experience, especially for shooters and flight simulators. The reloading, aiming, firing and movement was just so much more realistic and immersive.

However, the graphics were mostly bad, compared to PC versions. The gaming content was no match either. Worst of all, motion sickness always kicked in after some time.

Therefore, once I started using the headset for movies, it quickly became the preferred option for me.

It could simulate the cinema so well, just with complete control on what to play, screen size, cinema theme, pause, backward/forward etc etc.

However, I have never given up on VR gaming completely. I would take up the headset and start playing from time to time.

I did sweat and feel tired, which was the excuse I gave myself for getting the headset in the first place. 

The problem was that I always felt more tired than I should be, e.g. comparing with similar amount of pure physical activities. Sometimes, I felt that affected my energy level.

So I have decided to put a stop to VR gaming for now. 

My alternative would then be flat-screen gaming. It would be hard for me to go back to the shooters after VR, but strategy games should do.
