Quick Updates - Investment, Gaming and Opportunities

Photo by Markus Winkler on Unsplash

Dear Readers,

Thank you for coming here!

I have been pretty occupied with work lately.

So here comes another “lazy” post.

1.Burned back and forth, up and down

My portfolio…

It hurts me to look at it.

After a week of recovery, this week it tanked again.

What’s worse, I am not really sure what to do with it.

So I will continue to be an ostrich.

2.Gaming interest fading

I have lost interest somewhat a bit in gaming.

I cannot find any exciting games to play now.

I am really waiting for Chinese Paladin 7 to come out and see how it is.

I was really impressed by the Swords of Legends 3.

3.Another opportunity knocks but I am not sure about it

I am still a bit scared by the offer retraction.

That makes unsure about this one.

My life now is not super, but ok. Actually, I can make myself feel satisfied with it.

With this opportunity, better perspectives, growth and money will be available to me, and at the same time, I will be exposed to the risk of another offer retraction.

It is most likely a no-brainer for most people. For me, I need to think and evaluate hard.

Maybe some more time will tell.

I will keep you guys updated.

Till next time!

Half-Conscious Update

Photo by Cris Saur on Unsplash

Dear Readers,

Thank you for coming here!

This is going to be a quick one.

After 6-hour interviews, my head is half dead to say the least.

I have done 6/7 hours of face-to-face interviews in a day before. Never thought online interviews would be more tiring on the mind.

So this will be a quick update.

1.All the interviews

I have done 10 interviews in the past two days. This has become the full-time job.

Luckily, work is not so full now.

And I am only half way through.

This is so far the largest hiring efforts for me.

The experiences did bring some additional learnings about interviews for both sides.

I will summarize those in a post after I have gone through the whole process.

2.All the games.

When Cyberpunk 2077 first came out in Dec, I was quite busy and did not play it.

Afterwards, I was just scared off by all the ridiculous bugs, reported by players.

A friend tried Cyberpunk 2077 again recently and told me that the game was playable now after all the patches.

So I tried it also.

And I am hooked.

I have always fancied a futuristic and chaotic world. I still remember the first movie of this kind where Humans can unlock the full potential of our brains and be God-like!

Even only a few hours in the game, I can see the complexity and connections of the storyline. If it is anywhere close to the Witcher 3, it is a more than great game. CDPR’s ability is not to be underestimated.

The gameplay is good too. The shooting is definitely not the best but it is good enough for a RPG. The progression and weapon systems are good too!

All in all, I think I am going to throw lots of hours into this game.

3.All the cases

The recent outbreak of Covid cases is literally in my neighborhood. We have been keeping our kids at home for a while.

Luckily, my wife and I are both working from home.

Sometimes, I cannot help feeling lucky not being able to onboard my China job. If I did, we would probably be in different places in times like this.

Money is important for sure. But life is more than that.

Stay safe!!

4.All the losses

The stock market….arh…do not even get me started on this.

My Market Transactions — Wk23 2021

Photo by Micheile Henderson on Unsplash

Dear Readers,

Thank you for coming here!

I made some transactions last week and they are not particularly good.

Here are my transactions for the last week!

Capital injection: ~900SGD

1.OEG

I was trying to ride the trend and speculate/gamble.

I looked at this stock before and thought the trend could continue for a day or two.

So I went in with 100 shares and did not even had a chance. So two hours later, I exited with ~150SGD loss.

Capital outflow: ~22KSGD

1.YALA

I added 1000shares at 15.5 the week before last week, which made my holdings too heavy in my portfolio. I was a bit worried.

So seeing the stock on the rise, I just put a “limit” order at 10% gain.

I was going to wait and see, but fell asleep. So I sold at 17.05 while the highest price on that day reached 18.2/18.3.

I would have caught the trend if I stayed awake for another half an hour.

Sadly, there is no “if”.

However, I am happy with the transaction.

Not because of the 10% gain. Actually, I was more irritated by losing the change of 20% gain, vs securing the 10%.

But because the concept of portfolio really came to me.

I really convinced myself of maintaining a balanced portfolio, instead of going for any single stock emotionally, which cost me dearly in the past.

The rationale behind the decision is more important than a right decision itself.

Happy investing!

A quick update

Photo by Markus Winkler on Unsplash

Dear Readers,

Thank you for coming here!

It has been a while since last time I did something like this.

I am really tired today.

For the first time in a long time, I did not have time to eat or drink or think. I just moved from meeting to meeting and from deliverable to deliverable.

Here I am, exhausted with a painful throat.

For the first time in a long time, I did not have time to do anything else because of work.

I guess this would happen sooner or later since the moment I decided to take over the scope of a colleague who was leaving.

I did not like the scope and I did not expect anything in return.

I did it simply because it would help my manager out and I was the best person to do it.

Still, I do not like the scope but I know I am doing pretty well, probably better than anyone else in the team would.

In a way, I asked for today to happen.

Do I like it? Let’s just say I know what I am doing and I do not hate it yet.

So enough with the crap. Here is the update.

1.Never slack at work

Because it will always come and haunt us.

Really dig into the details and understand.

Think ahead what problems we might face or what questions people might ask.

Do not be affected by people who keep telling us “just somehow do can already”.

Do not think anyone else is stupid.

Only hard work yields results.

Even if we are very very demotivated, maintain the standard of work. This is not for the company or anyone else. This is for us.

Once we compromise our standard, there could be no return.

Of course, workplace is complicated and we may need to play “tricks” sometimes.

Then do it strategically and maintain standard even when playing tricks!

2.Pay raise

I got a small pay raise, because I am doing two persons’ job and I just passed probation.

It feels good to know your manager realizes what you have done for him and is willing to show appreciation.

Moneywise, I am willing to give up this increment to get rid of the work load anytime.

Again, I did not do it for the money.

3.Painful reminder

Just as I received the pay raise, HR sent me my old contract, the one with higher salary.

Not sure what that was about because I have not got back to them yet as I have been so busy.

If their goal is to remind me, well, they have succeeded.

4.Loss of a friend

The NP hard problem I complained the other day. The outcome was also hard.

He did not appreciate my help at all and he has not replied my message since then.

So I guess there goes a close friend.

He has done a lot for me and I have done a lot for him.

But, after all, the friendship is just that fragile.

Reality hurts, but we got to live with it.

Another quick update — Things are up!

Photo by Markus Winkler on Unsplash

Dear readers,

Thank you for coming here!

This is again going to be a very quick update.

Things are really up!

I once again just sent out the last message I needed to send today for work. The schedule has been pretty tight lately, mainly because of the multiple things ongoing.

When some of them demand attention at the same time, that is when overloading happens.

But I am ok perfectly. Nothing I could not handle. Have been through much tighter schedules.

While efficiency could surely be improved in some cases, I am satisfied with my performance overall.

And I feel I have regained some of my confidence. Now is the time to guard against arrogance!

Photo by Markus Spiske on Unsplash

Also the stocks are up!

I have regained 60% of my gains since I changed my investment approach last Nov, up from -115% that happened very recently.

Now, I start to regret the lost opportunities for adding positions in the past week.

Honestly, I had gotten a bit scared by the repeated and significant drops.

Therefore, when I saw the opportunity to top up, I set very low prices before going to bed or focusing on work.

In a few cases, the prices were really close to my set prices, but I missed them in the end.

My returns would have been much bigger if I was less afraid and just set a reasonable price for top up.

But anyway, I would never know whether it will start shooting up or keep going down.

I guess we can only earn the returns that we are qualified for.

Once we are there, opportunities will present themselves. I look forward to that day!

Till next time!
